Applicant: Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province
Maogusi dance is known as "gusipa dance", "papageci" or "babuka" in Tujia language, and is often called "Maogusi" or "maoliewu" in Chinese. Maogusi dance is an ancient form of Tujia Dance, which originated from the sacrifice ceremony of Tujia nationality. It is mainly distributed in Longshan County, Yongshun County, Baojing County and Guzhang County.
Maogusi dance is a kind of primitive drama dance with characters, dialogues, simple plot and certain performance program. It performs the production contents of fishing, hunting and farming of Tujia ancestors with artistic techniques such as freehand brushwork, fictionalization and assumption, which are similar to traditional opera. It has the characteristics of dance and performance of drama. The two are interwoven and integrated. Most of the performances are interspersed with hand waving dance, sometimes performed alone on certain occasions. The performers bend their knees, shake all over their bodies, the grass Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua Shua. The contents of "playing dew", "sweeping in and sweeping out", "hunting" and "winning hunting" can be clearly distinguished according to the performance. The most prominent feature of the dance lies in the style of clothing. The performers wear grass clothes and bark, which is simple and natural, and has primitive customs. When performing the dialogue, it is required to change the tune so that the audience can not recognize the real identity of the performer. The most important thing is that Maogusi dance, as an ancient and unique art form, can provide more reliable clues for the study of the origin of Tujia Dance.
Maogusi dance is not only of great value to the study of Tujia people's initial life form and way of life, but also a precious cultural heritage in which the ancient belief symbols such as nature worship, totem worship, ancestor worship and artistic elements such as freehand brushwork, virtuality and imitation are retained in its performance form.
