Applicant: Kulun banner, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region
Andai dance originated in Kulun banner and was formed in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty. At that time, the Kulun system was "the unity of politics and religion", with numerous temples and monks. In the middle of the Qing Dynasty, a large number of immigrants from all over the country rushed into the grassland, and the cultural customs of different tribes and regions mixed together to form the Kulun Mongolian culture, which gave birth to the popular Andai dance.
There are more than 30 theories about the origin of Andai dance, the most representative of which is that Andai dance was originally used to cure women's lovesickness, and it also contains the meaning of praying for God's blessing and eliminating disasters and diseases. At that time, there were 12 popular Andai in Kulun and other places, such as adaandai and wuriga Andai. Andai is usually held during festivals or leisure time, with one person leading the singing and many people responding, and hundreds of men, women, old and young singing and dancing. Andai dance has a strong self entertainment, distinctive national characteristics and strong flavor of life, relaxed and happy, easy to learn, singing along with the lyrics, full of appeal. All men, women, old and young can enter the stadium for dancing, and there is no time or place limit. As long as according to the rhythm of their music, throw towel step, and lead singer corresponding and can. Andai's music has unique style and strong appeal, which is convenient for singers to express different emotions according to different situations. Andai's libretto is not fixed except that the opening and closing parts are basically fixed due to the needs of the ceremony. Those singers who are quick witted and good at words can express their feelings with humorous lyrics, or praise, or ridicule, or laugh and scold.
In the past 400 years, Andai dance has been loved by the Mongolian people for its strong "folk nature" and "crazy dance", and has gradually become the most popular Carnival dance of Mongolian religious rituals and "Nadam" grand meeting in Inner Mongolia. According to the historical records of Kulun, the longest duration of a single Andai dance is more than 40 days. Its scale and number of participants are the largest in Chinese folk dance.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Kulun banner carried out the excavation and arrangement of Andai dance in an all-round way. In 1958, Erdun Bala, an old folk artist of Andai, performed Andai in Beijing, causing a sensation. Nowadays, Andai dance has become the most dazzling cultural symbol of Mongolian people. In 1996, Kulun banner in Inner Mongolia was named "the hometown of Andai art in China". In recent years, due to the changes of cultural forms, the inheritance mode and living space of Andai dance are increasingly restricted, and the continuation of dance is greatly threatened, which is in urgent need of sorting and rescue.
