Applicant: Zitong County, Sichuan Province
Dongjing music is mainly popular among the Han, Bai and Naxi people in Yunnan Province. It was originally a kind of Taoist ritual music and got its name from chanting the scriptures of the great Dongxian Sutra. Its music tunes are very rich, each region has an independent set of various tunes, ranging from 40 to more than 100.
Wenchang Dongjing ancient music, also known as "Dongjing music", is a kind of folk music played when offering sacrifices to the emperor Wenchang. It first originated in the Qiandao period of the Southern Song Dynasty. Qiqushan in Zitong County served as the grand temple of the ancestral court of Wenchang. At the beginning, it was called "tanchijunyin". Later, it was renamed "Dongjing ancient music" because of the performance of "Wenchang Da Dongxian Jing". The classical music of Wenchang cave is popular in Wenchang palace, qiqushan, Zitong County, Sichuan Province, as well as Shantang and Zhaitang around the county seat, which has a far-reaching influence on the local people.
The ancient music of Wenchang Dongjing mainly appeared as accompaniment music when playing and performing the great Dongxian Sutra of Wenchang. It has a variety of tunes, which can be divided into three categories: big tunes, small tunes and gongs and drums. Big music cards are mainly played by wind and percussion instruments, small music cards are mainly played by silk and bamboo instruments, and gongs and drums are mainly played by a variety of percussion instruments. Da Yue and Xi Yue are mainly used as accompaniment of various ritual activities, and also as interlude between Jingqiang. The gongs and drums scriptures are mainly used to open the altar and collect the Scriptures, or to connect various kinds of Jingqiang and the end of Dayue and Xiyue Qupai. They can also be used as background accompaniment for poetry recitation. The music style is soothing and elegant, and the style is pious and solemn, which makes people respect. The representative works of ancient music of Wenchang Dongjing include praise of Wenchang, zhengxingxiang, wild geese crossing the blue sky, etc.
With the passage of time, Wenchang Dongjing ancient music gradually went out of the temple and into the folk, which had a great impact on other national music. As a kind of folk music closely related to traditional religion, it is an important reference for the study of Chinese folk culture and religious culture. At present, under the impact of modern civilization, farming cultural customs are gradually broken, and the ideas of the young generation have changed significantly. The living space of Wenchang Dongjing ancient music, which is linked with traditional folk beliefs, is shrinking, and the inheritance of it is in serious crisis. It has become an urgent task to increase the protection and slow down the decline of this folk ancient music.
