Wenzhou lotus was formed in the late Qing Dynasty and has a history of more than 100 years. It is widely spread in Wenzhou City, Yongjia, Ruian, Yueqing, Pingyang, Taishun and parts of Taizhou in southern Zhejiang. It evolved from Daoqing. In the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, it had a large audience, and a number of famous artists such as Xu Bangzhong, Wu Wengao, Xu Shunjie and Li goujin emerged.

Most of the words and sentences of Wenzhou lotus use seven character sentences, but there are also five character sentences and cross sentences. When singing, artists often add lining words and auxiliary words in sentences to enhance rhythm and create charm. Lianhua's singing is gradually formed on the basis of folk music in Yongjia County, Wenzhou City. It is based on "Lianhua tune", supplemented by "Fenghuang tune" and Wenzhou folk tune. According to the needs of content expression, artists will flexibly use "Allegro", "adagio", "scattered board" and "stacked board" to form a unique artistic effect. At the beginning of the 20th century, the accompaniment instrument of Wenzhou lotus was only a Dao Qing tube and a pair of Yin Yang board (bamboo board). At the beginning of the 20th century, the accompaniment lotus appeared. It also added ox tendon Qin, Sanxian, Pipa and so on to make the music more beautiful.

Wenzhou lotus has a variety of themes, with more than 50 traditional repertoires, mostly medium and long ones. Among them, there are mythological works such as Da Kai Tian and Ba Xian, secular works such as Lin Lin Bao and Crystal Palace, and local works such as Liu Wenlong, Gao Ji and Wu Sanchun, Huang sannu Niao and Lin dinglang. A traditional medium piece can be sung for 3 to 4 hours, while a traditional long piece can be sung for about 10 hours, which needs three to four performances. Wenzhou lotus has extensive popularity and strong regional characteristics, which is an important basis for the study of southern Zhejiang folk literature and social customs, and has high historical and cultural value. At present, this valuable local folk art variety has appeared survival crisis, lack of successors, and needs to be protected and inherited.
