[medicinal materials] the dried leaves are palmate compound leaves with long stalks, with 5 leaflets and occasionally 3 leaflets in ovate or obovate shape; the leaflets at the base of compound leaves are 2-3cm long and 1-1.5cm wide; the leaflets at the upper part of compound leaves are 4-15cm long and 2-4cm wide, with cuneiform base, tapered apex, serrate margin, papery; yellow green, curly, sometimes broken. It is fragrant, slightly bitter and sweet.

Most of the ginseng leaves sold in the market are the leaves of Panax notoginseng, which are similar in shape to ginseng leaves. It is mainly produced in Sichuan, Shaanxi and other places, and its medicinal material is called "Shenye". See "reference leaf" bar.

[clinical application] treatment of Addison's disease

The stems and leaves of Panax ginseng were extracted with 20% ethanol to make 50% extract. Take it three times a day, starting from 60-90 ml per day, gradually increasing, usually lasting between 150-300 ml per day. 18 cases were observed, with an average of 121 days (the longest 323 days, the shortest 23 days). Results 4 cases were markedly effective, 9 cases were improved, 4 cases were partially improved, and 1 case was invalid. Preliminary observation showed that the significant changes after treatment were the increase of body weight, grip strength, blood glucose, blood pressure, blood sodium concentration, and the improvement of cortisol water test and ACTH test. The effect of this drug on early or compensatory patients is significant, but for late non compensatory patients, it needs to be combined with cortisol.
