A brief introduction to the Folktales of the ancient fishermen and geese:
Applicant: Dawa County, Liaoning Province
Since ancient times, erjiegou town in Liaohe estuary has always been a special group of fishermen - "ancient fishing geese". The fishermen with this life-long plan do not have the strength to fish in the open sea. They can only migrate along the land and water edge of the coast like migratory birds, and fish for shrimps in the shoals and shallow waters at the estuary of rivers. Because this group followed a primitive fishing and hunting livelihood without settlement, people in liaohekou called it "ancient fishing geese".
The ancient fishermen and geese in erjiegou are mainly fishermen who migrated to this place from the central and eastern areas of Hebei Province through dry land and water land. They are the creators and inheritors of the folk literature of ancient fishermen and geese. Due to the particularity of livelihood, there are great differences between the folk literature of ancient fishing geese and that of fishing villages on islands. The distinctive livelihood characteristics and primitive cultural heritage of the fishing geese reflect the history and life, customs and traditions, beliefs and cultural creation of the group in an all-round way. In terms of form, the folk literature of ancient fishermen and geese is short in length, simple in plot, primitive in content, and less developed and changed.
The folk literature of ancient fishing geese in erjiegou is rich. Over the past decade, the local cultural department has excavated and recorded nearly 1000 myths, stories and legends that explain the origin of the ancient boat net and reflect the primitive fishing life, and collected more than 1000 fishing songs. Liu zeting, a descendant of the ancient geese and a fisherman, can tell hundreds of stories and legends about the ancient geese. He is an important inheritor of the folk culture of the ancient geese.
Due to the particularity of livelihood, the ancient fishermen and geese were in a marginal state in Chinese society, which was rarely recorded in literature. The folk literature of ancient fishermen and geese describes and reflects this ancient way of livelihood in the form of oral history, which has important historical, cultural and scientific value. In recent years, this way of life planning has been interrupted in China's coastal areas and the world's Haikou regions. The older generation of ancient geese and fishermen have also died, and the folk literature of ancient geese and fishermen is on the verge of extinction. Based on this, the folk literature of ancient fishermen and geese in erjiegou, the estuary of Liaohe River, is more precious and needs to be protected.
