Tibetan medicine is an important part of Chinese traditional medicine and an important representative of Chinese national medicine.

Tibetan medicine has a long history. It is the medical experience accumulated by Tibetan people in the special environment of the Qinghai Tibet Plateau. Its classic work "four medical classics" was written in the Tubo Dynasty in the second half of the 8th century. It was written by the famous Tibetan medicine expert Yutuo Gongbu on New Year's day. The combination of Tibetan medicine and Tibetan astronomy and calendar is a huge and complex medical system. Tibetan medicine is based on the theory of "water, fire, earth, wind and air" and the theory of "dragon, Chiba and Bacon". It takes the plants, animals, minerals and some "Southern medicine" of the Qinghai Tibet Plateau as the basic medicine, and adopts the practice mode of adapting to the plateau environment and nomadic life, It has a unique curative effect on common diseases, frequently occurring diseases and endemic diseases in high altitude hypoxia environment, and its health culture has been paid more and more attention by the medical community.

Due to the vast territory of the Qinghai Tibet Plateau, high mountains and steep waters, the ethnic and regional characteristics of Tibetan medicine culture are obvious, and the diagnosis, medical technology and medicine of Tibetan medicine are often different in different regions and schools. In recent decades, with the construction of Tibetan medicine and the extensive development of academic exchanges, the inheritance and promotion of Tibetan medicine have made remarkable achievements.

Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture is located in the northeast edge of the Qinghai Tibet Plateau, with an average altitude of more than 3000 meters. Gannan has a vast territory, rich and diverse natural environment, 60% of pharmaceutical raw materials are produced in the territory. Due to the special geographical environment and long sunshine time, Gannan has high active ingredients.

In the 7th century, Tibetan medicine was introduced into Gannan. Gannan Tibetan medicine is made by timely collection, proper drying, distinguishing the old from the new, processing detoxification and special processing technology. Its properties are soft, compatibility is appropriate, and the curative effect is particularly significant.

Gannan Tibetan medicine treatment method is more unique, mainly internal (ten kinds) and external treatment of two types. External treatment methods include soft treatment (fumigation, medicated bath and smearing), rough treatment (bloodletting, fire moxibustion and stick pricking) and severe treatment (cutting, cutting, pulling and clearing). From the historical records and the existing instrument atlas, it has reached the technical level of craniotomy. Gannan Tibetan medicine is a unique creation of Tibetan culture, with Gannan Tibetan medicine knowledge system as the core, and with religion, philosophy, astronomy, phenology, folk customs and other cultural categories linked, together constitute the Tibetan people's view of disease, society, nature and life.

Under the influence of foreign culture, Gannan Tibetan medicine has been greatly impacted, a large number of Gannan Tibetan medicine classic ancient books have been lost, there is no successor of Tibetan medicine family, and many old Tibetan medicine clinical practice experience is facing loss, which is in urgent need of rescue and protection.
