Introduction to Pansoli

Pansoli is a Korean music. "Pansouli" is a transliteration of Korean, which originally refers to "entertainment field", here extended to "songs sung in public".

Pansoli is popular in Korean inhabited areas in Jilin, Liaoning and Heilongjiang provinces. The traditional form of performance is that one person stands and talks and sings in Korean, mainly singing and speaking; another person sits and plays with drums, sometimes with Gaya or Yangqin accompaniment. There are flat tune, upper flat tune, interface tune, flat interface tune, lower interface tune and so on. In the past, they usually performed in outings, banquets, festivals and celebrations. During the Anti Japanese War, some artists also made a living by singing in restaurants. After the middle of the 20th century, there appeared high stage performance, which became an important performance form of Korean professional art performance groups. Traditional programs are mostly based on Korean traditional stories, such as Chunxiang Zhuan, Shenqing Zhuan and Xingfu song. There are also programs based on Han literature stories, such as Chibi song and Kongming song, and short programs reflecting real life in the new era.

Since the beginning of the 21st century, the development of pansouli has encountered difficulties, the performance has shrunk, and there are few successors, so it is in urgent need of support and protection.
