Brief introduction to the architectural techniques of Shilong in Shikumen
Applicant: Huangpu District, Shanghai
Shilong folk house in Shikumen is named for its dark lacquer thick wood gate, which is tightly hooped by the door frame composed of granite slates, and also because it is like the official warehouse. The earliest Shikumen is xingrenli, Ningbo Road, Shanghai. It was built in 1872 and has a history of 130 years. Shikumen is the basic residence of 70% of Shanghai citizens in modern times.
The architectural construction technique of Stone Gate Lane has high artistic value in architecture. Its architectural pattern inherits the form of the traditional central axis of Jiangnan folk houses. The exterior wall is a clean brick wall without painting, and the roof is covered with green tiles. Shikumen is located in the center of the starting point of the central axis, and its depth includes patio, guest hall, East and West Wing room, staircase, kitchen (commonly known as "kitchen shack") and back door. The corner from the stairs to the second floor is the pavilion. In front of the second floor are the passenger hall building and the East and West Wing building. The layout is compact and the living is comfortable, and the architectural structure is the traditional bucket style of Jiangnan folk houses.
Shikumen is the epitome of modern history of Shanghai. It involves modern history, politics, economy, culture, folk custom and other fields, and has accumulated profound historical and cultural connotation and high historical value.
In terms of art, in addition to architecture, it also involves stone carvings (door lintel), wood carvings (doors, windows and railings), calligraphy (Lane name "plaque"), metal crafts (zongnong iron door, copper door ring), etc., all of which have high artistic value. On the basis of keeping the original appearance of many Shikumen, indoor living facilities have also been transformed. Xintiandi and Taikang Road Tianzifang has been developed from traditional Shikumen into a modern cultural pioneering area and recreational area, becoming a famous sight in Shanghai. With the development of society, the improvement of people's life and the acceleration of urban construction, the traditional and old Shikumen is gradually replaced by high-rise residential buildings, and its construction technology is also in danger. Therefore, it has become an urgent task to protect and inherit the valuable and unique cultural heritage of Shilong architecture in Shikumen.
