Brief introduction of lamp color (Huangyuan exhaust lamp)
Applicant: Huangyuan County, Qinghai Province
Huangyuan paideng is popular in Chengguan Town, Huangyuan County, Qinghai Province. Its origin can be traced back to Jiaqing and Daoguang years of Qing Dynasty. At that time, mainland merchants gathered in Huangyuan county. Shops in Huangyuan city made famous signboards in order to attract customers. The signboards were filled with candles, which were shining at night. Later, the shop's name signboards became more and more exquisite and beautiful, and became signboards with different shapes and patterns with bases. The large-scale row lights across the street were reformed on the basis of the signboards.
The frame of Huangyuan row lamp is made of good wood. The frame is exquisitely carved. Its shape includes rectangle, saddle, fan-shaped, etc. it is generally 2 meters long, 0.6 meters high, and about 0.4 meters thick. The front and back sides are divided into 3 to 6 stages. Each stage is painted with a pattern of historical figures, allusions, landscape flowers and birds of the merchant's choice. The pictures are interrelated, and still lit with candles. At night, the streets of Huangyuan city are full of colorful lights. This custom has been followed until the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, and has been supported by the local chamber of Commerce and the fire god Association. Every year, the Lantern Festival on the 15th of the first lunar month will be held during the display activities.
In 1958, most of the lamp frames were destroyed, and the patterns were basically lost. In 1992, the Cultural Department of Huangyuan county organized artists to remake 70 sets of row lamps, which were put on display on January 15, 1993. In 1997, paideng street was formed again in Huangyuan county. Now the main inheritors of Huangyuan paideng are Zhang Shenglu, Yang zenggui, Zhang tingen, etc. Due to the interruption of more than 30 years, many traditional techniques of paideng production have been lost, and there is no successor. Huangyuan paideng, a characteristic folk craft, is in an endangered state, which needs to be rescued and supported.
