Luonan jingbanshu is a popular form of Quyi storytelling in southern Shaanxi, which was formed at the latest during the reign of Emperor Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty. The main form of performance is singing and speaking. It is usually performed by one person playing three strings and beating big gong, small Gong, copper cymbal, pedal clapper and grasshopper board.
In the past, Luonan static writing on blackboard was mostly used as a means for the blind to survive, and performances were mostly performed in the occasions of praying for God, praying for rain, wedding, funeral, birthday, full moon, etc. Since 1976, there have been high stage performances.
Luonan jingbanshu traditional program is rich in theme and content, involving myths and legends, historical romance, legends of public cases, loyal ministers and filial sons, love between men and women and so on. However, since the end of the 20th century, the number of artists has decreased sharply, the performance has shrunk, and the survival is endangered.
