Introduction to Yangko Opera (Huguan Yangko)
Applicant: Huguan County, Shanxi Province
Huguan Yangko was originally a form of folk fire performance in Huguan area of Shanxi Province, which was formed in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty. It often sings in the street, rice field, threshing field and Kang, only accompanied by bronze but not string music, so it is also called "DIGE circle Yangko" and "dry board Yangko". At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, there were more than 100 amateur Yangko troupes in Huguan, Shanxi Province, such as "xiguanbi", "Shipo" and so on.
In October 1960, Huguan county government formally established a professional Yangko troupe to rescue and organize Yangko on a large scale. Huguan Yangko has been reported to the provincial capital for many times and won many awards. In recent years, with the change of production and life style, the market of Huguan Yangko performance is shrinking day by day, the artists are struggling to survive, and the whole Yangko art is lack of successors, so it is urgent for the government to support and protect it.
