Hengshan waist drum is a traditional folk dance, which can be divided into small field waist drum, four person waist drum, old waist drum and new waist drum. Hengshan old waist drum, also known as "Wen waist drum", is the only existing old waist drum in Northern Shaanxi, which can be traced back to the middle of Ming Dynasty. It is mainly distributed in the basins of Luhe River, Xiaoli River, Dali River and heimutouchuan in Hengshan County, and zhangcundi village in Nanta township is the most representative.

Hengshan old waist drum in Northern Shaanxi usually appears in the form of dance team, and the performance forms include single player, double player, four player, eight player, group field and so on. The dance team is composed of umbrella head, drummer, wax flower and variegated clown. The drummer's movements are vigorous, powerful, bold and unrestrained, free and easy, which are frequently interspersed on the scene. Wax flower is angry and shy, and the dance steps are light. It pairs with drummer to convey emotions, which adds the artistic appeal of the performance. The main props of Hengshan old waist drum are tiger support, umbrella, waist drum, drumstick, hinge and twirl. The basic movements include two feet do not fall to the ground, three feet jump, two turns, kicking, kicking, hall duel, waist binding duel, hall joint turn and so on. The main fields include jujube comb, black donkey rolling in the day, black tiger digging out the heart and so on.

Hengshan old waist drum has long maintained its original drum playing skills. It has great characteristics in clothing, props, appearance, dance movements and so on. It shows a bold, rough, exciting and humorous traditional style, which has important historical, cultural and artistic research value.
