Shanjiang township is located in the southwest of the county, across the Jinsha River and Yunnan Province. 67 kilometers away from the county. It covers an area of 40.4 square kilometers and has a population of 4000. Jinbu road passes through. It has jurisdiction over five village committees, including Jinhe, Sanjiang, laozhaizi, songlinping and Liangzi.

On January 12, 2021, Sichuan Provincial People's Government approved Liangshan Prefecture to adjust the administrative divisions of some towns and townships in Puge county and other seven counties (cfzm [2021] No. 1): the administrative areas of Daluo village, labuqi village, Liangzi village and songlinping village in gengbao Township were put under the jurisdiction of Shanjiang Township, and Shanjiang Township People's government was stationed in group 1, Jinhe village.

Shanjiang township is under the jurisdiction of Jinyang County, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. In 1971, xigengbao township was established as Jinhe Township, in 1972, it was changed into commune, in 1981, it was renamed Shanjiang commune, and in 1984, it was established as Shanjiang township.
