Kaifeng University is a full-time Comprehensive University sponsored by Kaifeng Municipal People's government with the approval of Henan Provincial People's government and the record of the Ministry of education. It was founded in 1980 as a branch of Henan Normal University (now Henan University). It was renamed Kaifeng Day University in 1981 and Kaifeng University in 1984.

Over the years, Kaifeng University adheres to the motto of "morality, learning, practice and innovation", follows the school running philosophy of "running the university with morality, quality, scientific research and characteristics", adheres to the school running tenet of "employment oriented, education based and service-oriented", and forms the combination of "employment, training and enrollment" and "production, teaching and scientific research" The mode of running a school and the pattern of running a school with "academic education as the main body, vocational training, technical service and technical development as a whole" have realized the comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable development of various undertakings.

The school covers an area of more than 1300 mu, with 11 colleges, 2 departments and 5 public teaching and research departments, offering more than 50 majors, covering six categories of engineering, management, literature, economics, medicine and art, and more than 11000 full-time students. At present, there are more than 900 teaching staff, more than 670 full-time teachers, and the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is more than 100 million yuan. There are 13 vocational skill appraisal institutions and 46 types of work. There are 2 projects to improve the development ability of professional service industry in Higher Vocational Schools supported by the central finance, 5 provincial famous brand and characteristic majors, 5 provincial demonstration key majors, 5 provincial teaching reform pilot majors, 6 provincial excellent courses and 2 provincial excellent teaching teams. It has 2 national training bases, 3 vocational education training bases supported by the central government, 2 provincial demonstration training bases, 1 provincial intangible cultural heritage research base, 147 on campus experimental training rooms, 14 application-oriented training centers, 4 practice factories and 1 affiliated hospital; 204 off campus practice and training bases have been established with related industries and enterprises. The source of students is all over the country's 30 provinces (cities, autonomous regions), and the employment rate has reached more than 95% in successive years. More than 50000 graduates of various types have been sent to the society.

The university has two publications, Journal of Kaifeng University and Central Plains Confucianism. The Taekwondo Association of Henan Student Sports Association, Kaifeng Public Relations Association, Taekwondo Association and Song Dynasty Culture Institute are all located in our university. The university has the qualification of receiving and sending overseas students as an intermediary, and has joint programs with Canada, New Zealand, Britain and other countries. In 1994, the board of Kaifeng University was established with Dr. Li Jinsong, chairman of the board of directors of Hong Kong Jinxin International Group as its chairman, and established school enterprise cooperation relations with more than 140 units in the Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta.

The college has been selected as a national college with typical employment experience and a standing director unit of China Vocational Education Research Association.
