[plant morphology] Cherry

Deciduous shrub or tree, 3-8m high. Bark grayish brown, with obvious lenticels: young branches glabrous or covered with white short hairs. Leaves alternate; petioles 5-8 mm long, covered with short hairs; stipules 2, usually 2-4-lobed; leaves broadly ovate, oblong ovate to elliptic ovate, 5-13 cm long, 3-9 cm wide, apex acuminate, base rounded, margin with double serrations of different sizes, teeth with glandular dots, upper surface green, few glabrous, lower light green, veins covered with short hairs, base usually with 2 glands. The flowers are white, about 2 cm in diameter; calyx tube is green, broadly oblong, apex 5-lobed; petals are 5, ovate to round, apex slightly concave; stamens are numerous, as long as petals; pistil 1, ovary superior, style smooth and glabrous. The drupe is nearly spherical, about 1.3 cm in diameter, bright red at maturity, with a long stalk, containing one seed. The flowering period is from March to April. The fruiting period is May.

Cultivated in garden or farm. Distributed in Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Hubei, Sichuan, Shanxi and other places.

The root (cherry root), branch (cherry branch), leaf (cherry leaf), fruit core (cherry core) and juice (cherry water) obtained from fresh fruit are also used for medicine. See special regulations for details.
