[plant morphology] deciduous shrub. The bark is grayish brown with irregular longitudinal stripes. Leaves alternate, ovate lanceolate, 3-6cm long and 1.5-3cm wide, apex caudate acuminate, base rounded, margin sharply double serrated; petiole longer; stipules 2, linear, caducous. The first leaf of flower is open, single or 2-3 clusters, pedicel 1-2cm long; calyx tube is gyriform, sepals 5; petals 5, light red or white, obovate elliptic; stamens many, anthers unequal; pistil 1, ovary oblong. The drupe is nearly spherical, bright red when ripe, and the peduncle is 1-2cm long. The flowering period is from April to June and the fruiting period is from July to August.

Born on hillside, roadside and forest edge. It is mainly produced in Heilongjiang, Liaoning and Jilin.

Testa thin, easy to peel off, cotyledons 2, milky white, rich in oil. The taste is slightly bitter.
