[chemical composition] the caudal gland (also known as the caudal gland or feather gland) secretes a liquid containing fat wax, which is composed of 60.807% water, 39.193% solids, 17.966% protein, 18.777% ether soluble fraction, 0.371% soluble ash, 0.336% insoluble ash, 7.423% higher alcohol, 5.848% oleic acid, 0.373% lower fatty acid and 0.233% lecithin. The ether dissolved part is mainly lipid, and the lower fatty acids are lauric acid and myristic acid. The mixed fatty acids in the secretory fluid are characterized by levorotatory. Two branched fatty acids, tetramethyldecanoic acid and tetramethylundecanoic acid, have been found.
