Tianjin Medical University

Tianjin Medical College, the predecessor of Tianjin Medical University, was founded in 1951. It was the first medical college approved by the state administration academy after the founding of new China. Professor Zhu Xianyi, a famous endocrinologist and medical educator, was the first president. In 1993, Tianjin municipal Party committee and government decided to merge Tianjin Medical College with Tianjin Second Medical College to form Tianjin Medical University, which was approved by the State Education Commission in December of the same year. In June 1994, Tianjin Medical University was formally established. The current party secretary of the university is Professor Zhang Lianyun, and the president is Professor Shang Yongfeng, a famous biochemistry and molecular biologist and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The university is a key construction college of the national "211 Project".

The development level type of the university is a multidisciplinary medical university with research teaching type, medicine as the core and life science as the main support.

Tianjin Medical University is the first eight-year medical college approved by the state after Xiehe Medical College. It is also one of the first 15 seven-year medical colleges. The university has 15 undergraduate programs: clinical medicine (seven-year, five-year), Stomatology (seven-year, five-year), anesthesiology (five-year), medical imaging (five-year), medical laboratory (five-year), preventive medicine (five-year), nursing (five-year), Biomedical Engineering (Four-year), pharmacy (Four-year), pharmaceutical preparation (four-year) Nursing, biomedical engineering and medical imaging are the first specialties in China. There are two undergraduate programs: Biomedical Engineering (Four-year Program in biotechnology and bioinformatics) and clinical medicine (seven-year program in medical imaging).

Currently, the university has 5 postdoctoral mobile stations, 7 first-class disciplines authorized by doctoral degree, 37 second-class disciplines authorized by doctoral degree, 11 first-class disciplines authorized by master degree, 68 second-class disciplines authorized by master degree, 219 doctoral supervisors and 727 master supervisors.

At present, the school has five national key disciplines: Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western medicine, oncology, surgery (Urology), surgery (neurosurgery), internal medicine (endocrine and metabolic diseases). There are 13 research institutes.

Since the 10th five year plan, the university has undertaken 1886 scientific research projects of the state, ministries and commissions and Tianjin, and has won 245 scientific and technological awards at or above the provincial and ministerial level, including 5 national scientific and technological awards, 10 first prizes and 63 second prizes at the provincial and ministerial level.

The clinical teaching base has 7 university hospitals, 15 non directly affiliated clinical colleges, 1 non directly affiliated hospital, 9 teaching hospitals, and more than 15000 teaching beds. University hospitals include: General Hospital of Tianjin Medical University, the second hospital of Tianjin Medical University, Tumor Hospital Affiliated to Tianjin Medical University, Stomatological Hospital of Tianjin Medical University, metabolic disease hospital of Tianjin Medical University, Eye Hospital of Tianjin Medical University and Airport Hospital of Tianjin Medical University; four of them are grade III class A hospitals, and the general hospital is the first grade III class a hospital in Tianjin, which has won the National Award“ The Affiliated Tumor Hospital won the honorary title of "national advanced unit of spiritual civilization".

The university has established academic exchange and cooperation relations with 73 universities in 17 countries, and established "foreign expert advisory committee". 108 world-famous medical experts and professors are invited to serve as honorary and visiting professors of various disciplines in our university to carry out high-level international scientific and technological cooperation in the field of medicine and biomedicine.

Since its establishment, the school has trained more than 40000 medical talents at all levels. In 2002 and 2008, the University passed the undergraduate teaching and seven-year higher medical education evaluation of the Ministry of education with excellent results.
