The Institute of tourism is a public higher education institution under the social and Cultural Department of the government of the Macao Special Administrative Region. It is the first educational institution to be awarded the "quality certification of tourism education" by the world tourism organization of the United Nations. The college offers a series of degree courses and professional training in the field of tourism, including hotel, tourism, cultural heritage, exhibition, retail and marketing, leisure and entertainment, sports activities, cultural creativity and cooking. In addition, the college also cooperates with internationally renowned institutions to offer advanced management courses and master's degree courses. In terms of research, the college is commissioned by the SAR government and other institutions to conduct policy research on tourism planning and development.
The mission of the college is to become the first choice of higher education institutions to provide international tourism and service courses, not only for Macao, but also for the Asia Pacific region, to cultivate students with professional knowledge and skills, and to play a leading role in the industry. In order to fulfill its mission, the college has the following three characteristics:
Uniqueness - independent operation, focusing on providing higher education and professional training in tourism and service industry management.
Integration - combining the advantages and characteristics of academic development and professional training.
International - develop mutually beneficial cooperation with relevant foreign institutions and institutions, and actively promote academic and international exchange activities.
In 1997, the Institute of tourism was selected as the mentor training and consultancy service center in the Asia Pacific region by the Asia Pacific Network of tourism education and training institutions (apetit), which is fully supported by UNESCAP. In the same year, the college was awarded the "education and training" Gold Award by the Pacific Asia Tourism Association, confirming the content and quality of the college's courses. In 2002, the "Macau vocational skills Recognition benchmark" (mors), jointly developed by the college and the European Union for the tourism and service industry in Macao, was awarded the award again.
In 1999, the Institute, in cooperation with the European Union, established the Macao European Centre for advanced studies in tourism (me-cats) in the Institute to integrate the new concepts of European tourism and service industry management into the tourism development in the Asia Pacific region. The center aims to become an education and training base in the Asia Pacific region and promote the exchange of knowledge and experience between European universities and local institutions.
In 2000, the Institute of tourism became the first educational institution to receive the "quality certification of tourism education" issued by the world tourism organization of the United Nations, confirming that the quality of its education and training meets international standards.
In 2003, at the invitation of UNESCO and iccrom, the Institute of tourism became a founding member of the Asian Society for cultural heritage management. The purpose of the association is to promote and strengthen professional training in cultural heritage management in the region.
In 2004, the college was selected as a member of the Asia Pacific Council of the Association for tourism and Leisure Education (Atlas), which has promoted the development of international tourism and leisure education in Macao, teacher-student exchanges, academic research and the professionalism of the courses.
"2008 medal, medal and certificate awarding ceremony of Macao Special Administrative Region of the people's Republic of China" was held on January 16, 2009. 40 members of the public and entities were awarded various medals, medals and certificates for their outstanding performance in personal achievement, social contribution or service to the Macao Special Administrative Region. The award of the "tourism Merit Medal" to the Institute of tourism affirms its contribution to the development of local tourism.
