Liming Vocational University, founded in 1984, is a public full-time comprehensive higher vocational college sponsored by Quanzhou Municipal People's Government of Fujian Province. The school has a long history. In the spring of 1929, at the initiative of famous educators Cai Yuanpei and Ma Xulun, liming senior high school opened. Yu Youren, a veteran of the 1911 Revolution and a famous calligrapher, inscribed the name of the school and served as the director of the school. Liang Piyun served as the principal. Famous writers Ba Jin, Lu Yan and Li Ni, famous editor, publisher and translator Wu Langxi, musician Lu Ji, dramatist Zhang Geng, historians Yang Renhui and Zhou Yibai, biologists Chen Fanyu and Liu Ziming and other celebrities from the cultural and educational circles have successively come to the University for investigation, lectures and writing. In 1981, Liang Piyun, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference and chairman of the Macao returned overseas Chinese Association, a famous educator, poet, calligrapher, and social activist, contacted overseas Chinese with former teachers and friends of Liming and initiated the establishment of Liming School Park. In 1984, it was upgraded to Liming Vocational University. Ba Jin was the honorary chairman of the board of directors of Liming Vocational University. The past presidents were Liang Piyun, Li Shangda, a Chinese industrialist in Indonesia, Liang Lingguang, the former governor of Guangdong Province, and Hu Ping, the former governor of Fujian Province. The current chairman is Chen Mingjin, member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee, member of the Legislative Council of Macao Special Administrative Region, and member of the Executive Council of Macao Special Administrative Region.

The school covers an area of 630 mu, with a building area of 218600 m2, including 21411 m2 of various classrooms and 55319 m2 of experimental and training places. Zhongshan campus has 10.28 mu, with a construction area of 11000 m2. There are 860000 paper books, 6000gb e-books and 3730 seats in multimedia classrooms.

The school has 9 colleges and 36 majors, including civil engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering and automation, information and electronic engineering, textile and footwear engineering, material and chemical engineering, economic management, foreign language foreign trade and tourism, cultural communication and continuing education, forming a professional layout dominated by applied engineering and modern productive service industry.
