Philippine journalist shares his journey of discovery in China
I am honored to share my speech at the closing ceremony of the 2024 project at the China International News Exchange Center on December 11th
As a media practitioner representing The Manila Times, I had the privilege of participating in this prestigious 4-month project with journalists and media professionals from around the world
Out of 96 participants from 87 countries, 17 from 15 countries represent the Asia Pacific region. I am honored to speak on behalf of the Asia Pacific Center and share our common perspectives and experiences with media colleagues and friends from this diverse and dynamic region
The past few months have been a journey of professional and personal discovery, learning, and friendship. This is an incredible journey - this journey not only takes us to appreciate China's amazing scenery, but also takes us to the center of vibrant Chinese culture, to understand China's extraordinary economic achievements, and most importantly, to feel the warmth and generosity of the Chinese people
In the past few months, the footsteps of our Asia Pacific Center reporters have extended from the misty mountains of Guizhou to the snowy Harbin, from the vibrant streets of Shanghai to the rich and colorful traditions of Yunnan. Each destination presents a unique story - about a country that harmonizes its ancient past with a bold vision for the future
Every step of the journey not only reveals the external beauty of China, but also reveals the spirit of a nation deeply connected to its roots, yet unafraid of innovation and progress. The development pace of China is intertwined with its cultural preservation, which not only inspires us visitors but also inspires the world
Although the scenery and skyline here amazed us, the enthusiasm of the people truly touched our hearts. From the smiles of villagers in Guizhou, to the vibrant exchanges in Yunnan, to the bustling streets of Shanghai, we feel the embrace of a warm and generous country. Our conversations, whether eating together or exchanging ideas, remind us of the power of human connections that transcend borders, languages, and cultures
Furthermore, China's economic narrative is a transformative story that we have witnessed firsthand. This story involves the innovation center in Shanghai, the thriving rural industries in Guizhou, and Yunnan's protection of centuries old traditions. The combination of modern economic vitality and profound cultural heritage proves that this country respects the past while building the future. The traditions, tea ceremony, folk music, and calligraphy art we encounter remind us that the soul of a country exists in its culture
Our members at the Asia Pacific Center come from 15 countries, each with unique perspectives, stories, and expectations. But through shared experiences, whether it's drinking tea in a quiet village, engaging in lively discussions about global issues, or even trying to improve our chopstick skills, we have found common ground. We have found that as journalists and media professionals, our mission transcends national borders. It is about seeking truth, promoting understanding, and building bridges in a world that sometimes feels too divided
As we prepare to return to China, let us take with us the memories of China's beauty and progress, the experience and lessons of cooperation, the value of cultural exchanges and the lasting enthusiasm of the Chinese people
