Brief introduction of Dai Peacock Dance
Applicant: Ruili City, Yunnan Province
The peacock dance of Dai nationality is the most famous traditional performing dance among the Dai Folk Dances in China. It is popular in Ruili, Luxi, Xishuangbanna, Mengding, Mengda, Jinggu, Cangyuan and other Dai inhabited areas in Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province. Among them, the Kongque dance (the Dai language is "galuoyong") in Ruili City of Western Yunnan Province is the most representative. It is said that more than 1000 years ago, Dai leader Zhao malijieshu imitated peacock's graceful posture and learned to dance. Later, after being processed and shaped by generations of folk artists, it was handed down to form peacock dance.
In the eyes of Dai people, peacock is a symbol of happiness and auspiciousness. Peacock dance is the most popular folk dance of Dai people. In the dam area where Dai people live together, there are almost "pendulum" (Festival) every month and singing and dancing every year. In Dai's annual "Water Splashing Festival", "door closing Festival", "door opening Festival" and "catch up" folk festivals, as long as it is a place for full enjoyment, Dai people will gather together, ring the Gong, play the elephant's foot drum, and dance the graceful "Peacock Dance". The songs and dances show a festive atmosphere of harvest and a beautiful scene of national unity. The peacock dance of the Dai nationality in Ruili is mainly composed of single dance and double dance. The majority of dancers are male. Peacock dance has a variety of hand movements and skills such as jumping and turning. The joints of the limbs and trunk should be bent and stretched down, and the whole body should vibrate evenly to form a beautiful "three bends" dance posture. The dance vocabulary of shelf peacock dance is particularly rich, such as "running down the mountain", "peeping in the forest", "walking in the forest", "shaking wings", "lighting water" and so on.
Peacock dance is light and delicate in style, delicate in emotional expression and graceful in posture. It is the crystallization of Dai People's wisdom and has high aesthetic value. It is not only performed alone in the important and lively national festivals, but also often integrated into the group dance "Ga Guang". Peacock dance has the significance of maintaining national unity, and its representativeness makes it the most culturally recognized dance of Dai nationality.
