Liuyang fireworks has a long history. According to the record of China's industry and Commerce published in 1935, "the manufacture of firecrackers in Hunan Province began in the Tang Dynasty, flourished in the Song Dynasty, and originated in Liuyang." Liuyang fireworks has always respected Li as the ancestor. During the reign of Kangxi in Qing Dynasty, Liuyang fireworks production had a considerable scale. During the reign of Emperor Guangxu, it had been sold to Hong Kong, Macao and Nanyang countries and became a famous brand product. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Liuyang fireworks have been exported from more than 20 countries and regions in history to more than 100 countries and regions in five continents, and domestic sales have reached 32 provinces, cities and autonomous regions in China. Its varieties have also developed from more than 30 to more than 3000 in 13 categories. In 1995, Liuyang City was awarded the honorary title of "hometown of fireworks in China"; in 2002, the International Fireworks Association (IFA) was established, with its headquarters established in Liuyang; in 2003, the General Administration of quality supervision, inspection and quarantine implemented the protection of Liuyang fireworks products of geographical origin; in 2004, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce registered the famous trademark of "Liuyang fireworks".
Liuyang fireworks and Chinese ancient folk customs have formed an indissoluble bond. In traditional festivals, people set off firecrackers to celebrate. Fireworks should also be set off during various sacrificial ceremonies.
Liuyang fireworks production was originally a traditional technique, all by hand, there are 12 processes, 72 processes. With the development of modern science and technology, employees have successfully developed safe, reliable and pollution-free high-tech new products such as smokeless fireworks, cold light fireworks, day view fireworks, indoor and stage fireworks, reaching the world's leading level. Fireworks can also be set off from the traditional manual ignition to remote control ignition, set off procedures are all controlled by computer programming.
Liuyang has become the largest fireworks production and marketing place in China. In 2004, the fireworks industry achieved an output value of 3.2 billion yuan and a tax revenue of 600 million yuan. In nearly 300000 Liuyang fireworks employees, 90% come from rural areas, absorbing more than 70% of the city's rural surplus labor force. At present, Liuyang is preparing to build a fireworks Museum, which will become a center for Chinese fireworks collection, research, exhibition and exchange.
