Jingshan tea banquet is a kind of hall tea party when Jingshan Wanshou temple in Yuhang District of Hangzhou receives distinguished guests. It is a unique solemn traditional tea banquet etiquette custom of respecting guests with tea, and is the survival of ancient Chinese tea banquet etiquette. Jingshan tea banquet originated in the middle of Tang Dynasty. Yuhang county annals contains the entry of "Buddha offering tea" by Faqin, the founder of Jingshan temple in Tang Dynasty. It was popular in song and Yuan Dynasties, and later spread to Japan, becoming the source of Japanese tea ceremony.
According to the tradition of the temple, whenever guests come, the abbot will hold a tea banquet in Mingyue hall to entertain them. There are more than ten ritual procedures in Jingshan tea banquet, such as opening tea table, beating tea drum, inviting you to enter the hall, offering incense to Buddha, boiling soup and ordering tea, walking tea, speaking and eating tea, and leaving the hall to thank tea. It is the essence and core of Jingshan tea banquet to take part in meditation with tea.
