Sanxian book, also known as "Sanxian jiaozi book", is popular in Qinxian, Wuxiang, Qinyuan and Xiangyuan in Southeast Shanxi, Zuoquan and Yushe in Central Shanxi, Anze and Fushan in southern Shanxi, Nanyang and its surrounding areas. It was formed in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty and has a history of more than 300 years.

Sanxian script was originally called "leg writing on blackboard" by the actors who tied the knot on their legs and played and sang with Sanxian in their arms. Later, it developed into one person holding a hinge and a octagonal drum to beat and sing, another person pedaling a clapper and playing a three string accompaniment, sometimes adding Sheng, Hu, Zheng and other accompaniment instruments. In the later stage of development, sanxianshu performance generally adopts standing singing mode, in which various performances are added. The actors sing and dance continuously, and the accompanist helps the situation, singing and harmonizing, full of interest.

Nanyang sanxianshu is called "sanxianjiaozishu" in full. Its singing music belongs to plate style, which can be roughly divided into two categories: jiaoziqiang and guziqiang. The whole singing system is divided into three schools, the middle singing is characterized by flat string singing, the West singing is characterized by low-key singers, and the East singing is characterized by high string singers, which has the flavor of Southern Henan Folk Songs. Nanyang Sanxian script has many kinds of boards, such as adagio, Erbao, sanliuban, liuliuban, Allegro, Zhengban, etc. the singing starts with the hinge tune, turns into GuZi tune in the middle, and finally turns back to the hinge tune, and ends with the "26ban" and "Allegro". Nanyang Sanxian book takes Sanxian as the main accompaniment instrument, and the string holder is commonly known as "xianzijia". Besides accompaniment, it also undertakes the tasks of delivering two words with the leading actor, exchanging feelings and receiving accompaniment singing. The festival instruments mainly include leg bang, octagonal drum, hinge and so on. The hinge can be used not only as the decorative sound of the festival, but also as the performance props. Nanyang Sanxian book has more than 200 traditional repertoire, among which the representative works are whipping Luhua, Zhang Liang's Ci Dynasty and Fengyi Pavilion.

At present, Sanxian book is facing a huge survival crisis in Henan Province. There is no one to inherit it, and the prospect is worrying. It is in urgent need of protection and support.
