Xi'an town is located in the southwest of Taoyuan County, Hunan Province. The town government is 90 kilometers away from the county seat, adjacent to taipingpu and guniushan townships, and at the junction of Guanzhuang town and dujiaping town of Yuanling County, cangchang Town, Malu Town, qingshanyuan town and Zhexi town of Anhua County. In the early days of the founding of new China, Xi'an town was a part of Anping township. In 1956, it was changed into dashuitian township. In 1958, it was transferred to chaanpu people's commune. In 1961, it was separated into dashuitian people's commune. In 1984, it was renamed dashuitian township. In the same year, Xi'an town was newly established. In 1987, dashuitian Township and Xi'an town were merged into Xi'an town. The area, cultivated land and population of the town account for 4.5%, 1.2% and 1.6% of the total amount of Taoyuan County respectively. With a total area of 199.75 square kilometers (2017), the town is the largest mountainous Township in Taoyuan County. The town is covered by continuous snow peaks.
