Ningwu County, historically known as Phoenix City, is the birthplace of Fenhe River. Fenghuang Town, with a total area of 193 square kilometers, is the economic, political and cultural center of Ningwu county. It is one of the top 100 well-off towns, civilized towns and safe towns in rural areas of Shanxi Province. Fenghuang town is located in Ningwu county. It governs 62 administrative villages and 37 rural Party branches. It has a permanent population of 45776 (in 2019). It has a total area of 193 square kilometers, a cultivated land area of 22449.8 mu, and a total economic income of 114.64 million yuan. It is the economic, political and cultural center of the county. It is one of the top 100 well-off rural towns, civilized towns, and city level safe towns in Shanxi Province.

Natural conditions

The climate of the whole town belongs to the northern Rocky and cold mountainous area, with an altitude of 1413 meters, a daily average temperature of 6.4 degrees Celsius, an annual accumulated temperature of more than 2500 degrees Celsius, an average frost free period of about 110 days, and a 90% guarantee rate of 126 days. The average annual precipitation is below 500 mm.

Natural resources the coal resources of the town are complete in coal types and excellent in coal quality. With a geological reserve of 208318000 tons and easy to exploit, it is one of the main coal energy bases in the county. There are a lot of bauxite and iron ore associated with bauxite, which are concentrated in xiaozhuangzi village, Lijiayao village and duzhuang village.

There are many places of interest in the territory, including the drum tower in the center of the city, the Wanfo temple built in the Ming Dynasty, the Ji tomb, Yangzhuang site and Yanqing temple around the city and county-level cultural relics protection units, and the "ranyu Liuxia" in Longquan Temple, one of the eight ancient scenic spots in Ningwu.
