Hongqi township is located in the northeast of Hangjinhou banner, adjacent to Shanba town in the southwest, Linhe District in the southeast, Hongxing Township, manhui Township and Sizhi Township in the north, and Nanqu Township in the West. With an area of 64.9 square kilometers, 2994 households and a population of 13343, it governs seven administrative villages, namely Chifeng, gongyiqu, Guangming, Hongqi, Xintang, Xinghuo and Zhangfang.

In 2001, the planting area of Xinghuo sunflower in the township was 30000 mu, with a total output of 10 million Jin and an output value of 30 million yuan. The net income of farmers from Xinghuo sunflower reached nearly 2000 yuan. Xinghuo sunflower has become the leading product for the people of the township to become rich and well-off.
