Tonghe town

Tonghe town is located in the northern mountain area of Pingnan County, with an altitude of 70 meters. It is a hilly and mountainous landform. It is famous for its second largest inland river, Datong River, passing through the town. The town borders Dongrong, Dali, Ningkang in Teng County of Wuzhou City, and Anhuai, Guancheng, Malian in this county. The total area of the town is 198 square kilometers, with 14 administrative villages under its jurisdiction. The total population is more than 55000, mainly Han nationality, about 5% Yao nationality.

General situation of the town

Tonghe town is located in the north of Pingnan County, with an altitude of 70 meters. It is a hilly and mountainous landform with more mountains and less paddy fields. It is adjacent to Dongrong, Dali, Anhuai, Guancheng, Malian and other townships in Tengxian county. There are 55331 people, 5% of whom are Yao, and the rest are Han. It has 14 administrative villages, 27 party branches and 1218 party members. The second-class highway from Pingnan to Jinxiu under construction passes through the whole town. The water and land transportation of the whole town is developed, and every village has access to the highway. The second inland river in the county, Datong River, passes through the whole town, and the water resources are very rich. The power stations in Shangxiang and Pingtang are under the jurisdiction of the town, with an annual power generation of 3 million kwh. The Yantan Power Station is under the jurisdiction of the county, with an annual power generation of 15 million kwh.

Economic situation

Cassava, Huaishan, Ponkan, high-quality rice, tea, bamboo pole, pine resin, star anise, chicken bone grass, Yugui, Shajiang and other characteristic agricultural and sideline products are well-known both inside and outside the county. Zhuhua and Sanhuang chicken form bases and are exported to Guangdong and other places. Gaofeng group and Taizhu group plan to plant 100000 mu, and now more than 60000 mu of Sufeng eucalyptus has been planted.

Main achievements

1. The construction of the "four major" bases has begun to take shape, and the "four major" projects, such as fast growing eucalyptus, pole bamboo, cassava and sericulture, have developed steadily. 2. By the end of 2006, through administration according to law, a total of 4 million yuan has been invested to completely solve the 38 year old historical problems in Yantan, Pingtang and Shangxiang reservoir areas. 3. With the action of the whole town, all the people rose up to overcome the catastrophic flood. In 2005, the town suffered from 172 years of extraordinary floods, which affected 253 natural villages in 12 administrative villages. 1242 houses collapsed, nearly 10000 people were homeless, 12000 mu of paddy fields were flooded, 6000 mu of rice was not harvested, and 15000 people's grain was washed away. The transportation, communication and power supply of the town were all interrupted, resulting in a direct economic loss of 130 million yuan. After the disaster, with the strong support and help of the higher authorities and all sectors of the society, nearly 10 million yuan was invested in the work of resuming production and disaster relief and rebuilding homes. In only half a year, all the collapsed households built new houses and moved into their homes. Therefore, the destroyed infrastructure was restored to its original appearance, the whole town had social stability, economic development, and people lived and worked in peace and happiness.
