Wen Ping town is located at the junction of Wugang, Xin Ning and Chengbu County, 17 kilometers southwest of Wugang City, and the administrative area is 84.17 square kilometers (2017). It has 26 villages and 1 neighborhood committees, 39327 registered residence population (2019), 335 Village (residents) groups, 32780 mu of arable land, and 24345 acres of paddy fields.

Wenping town has 85 township enterprises, including 25 township coal mines, 2 state-owned coal mines and 21 small hydropower stations, with 10849 employees, known as Wugang's "small Shenzhen".
