Dongwutai temple is located in xishuangtang village, Shuangtang Town, Jinghai County, Tianjin city, covering an area of 120 mu and a construction area of 79920 square meters.

historical origin

According to historical materials, during the reign of Chongzhen in the Ming Dynasty, the great monk Zhiyuan traveled here and built a temple. He used his Buddhist medicine skills to eliminate disasters and remove difficulties for the people. He won the love and respect of the people everywhere. He spontaneously raised money and spent three years to expand it into a magnificent temple. Because of the grand momentum and vigorous spirit of the temple, good men and women saluted the worshippers There is an endless stream, a prosperous scene.

In the early years of the Republic of China, new schools were established all over the country, and temples were forced to be changed into national universities. Later, they were destroyed by rare floods, and then the Daochang weakened. When Japan invaded China, the remaining precious cultural relics in the Daochang should be plundered, leaving only the ruins, which was very desolate.

Due to its far-reaching influence on the people, many places strongly hope to restore the original temples. On March 28, 2003, with the approval of the Bureau of religious affairs of Tianjin municipal government, the restoration and reconstruction of the temple was completed. On April 7, the foundation of the temple was laid. More than 10000 square meters of construction projects, including the main hall, the heavenly king hall, the release pool, the bell and Drum Tower, were completed, and officially put into use on October 1, 2005.

Master Zhao Zheng was born in Beichen District of Tianjin in 1968. On September 19, 1990, when Buddhism became mature, the master of Jidu in Taiyuan Temple of Mt. Wutai became a monk. In 1992, he sought to teach three great precepts in Taiyuan temple. Later, he joined Xiantong temple, invited an old Buddhist monk, and served as the master of the temple. In 2002, he returned to Tianjin to advocate the construction of dongwutai temple.
