Nanjiang reservoir

Nanjiang reservoir is located on the Nanjiang River, the upstream tributary of Dongyang River in Qiantang River Basin. It is a large (second) type reservoir mainly for irrigation and flood control, combined with water supply and power generation. The reservoir controls the drainage area of 210 square kilometers, with a total storage capacity of 116.8 million cubic meters and a normal storage capacity of 91 million cubic meters.

Brief introduction of reservoir

The construction of Nanjiang reservoir was started in December 1969 and completed in November 1972. The reservoir was expanded and reinforced in 1990 and completed in April 1994. The main project of the reservoir is composed of a masonry gravity dam, a power generation tunnel and a power station at the back of the dam with an installed capacity of 2 × 1250 × 2000 kW. The designed irrigation area is 150000 mu, and now the actual irrigation area is 80000 mu. The annual average power generation is 11.5 million kwh.

Since Nanjiang reservoir was put into operation, many floods have been stopped and stored, which has brought great benefits to protect the flood control safety of downstream towns and farmland.
