Luoyang Zhougong Temple Museum

Luoyang Zhougong Temple Museum (the former Luoyang Capital Museum) is a special museum built on the basis of Zhougong temple to promote Zhougong culture and display the cultural connotation of the capital ruins. It is located 100 meters east of the intersection of Dingding South Road and Kaixuan East Road in the old urban area of Luoyang, covering an area of more than 50 mu.

Development history

Zhougong temple was built at the end of Sui Dynasty and the beginning of Tang Dynasty to commemorate Zhougong Jidan. Ji Dan, Duke of Zhou, was a thinker, statesman, militarist and founder of Chinese Confucianism in the Western Zhou Dynasty. He once assisted King Wu in ruling the country and destroying business, building Luoyi Chengzhou, and assisting King Cheng in Dingding, making rites and making music. Zhougong temple, also known as Yuansheng temple, is one of the three major Zhougong temples in China. It is also a holy place for more than 150 descendants of Zhougong to find their roots and offer sacrifices to their ancestors.

In Tang, Ming, Qing and Republic of China, it was rebuilt and expanded successively.

architectural composition

Zhougong temple in Luoyang is located in the north and south, covering an area of more than 50 mu. The existing buildings include bell and Drum Tower, Dingding hall, ritual hall, Xianzu hall and two verandas, with a total of 25 couplets. Among them, Dingding hall is the oldest and the most complete, retaining the imprint of the ancient architectural art of Liao and Jin Dynasties.

Collection

The statue of Boan, the eldest son of Duke Zhou, is one of the larger colored statues of Ming Dynasty found in Henan Province so far. It has high historical and cultural value. The museum also has a stele Pavilion for visiting the capital, a stele for Duke Zhou's dream interpretation, a stele for the preface to the genealogy of the Yuan Dynasty, a stele for rebuilding the temple of Duke Zhou, and an ancient pagoda tree over 800 years old.
