Introduction to Yugur Costumes:
Applicant: Sunan Yugur Autonomous County, Gansu Province
The characteristics of Yugur costumes are prominently reflected in women's costumes. Yugur unmarried girls wear "Ge Yao Ze Yi Nie" on their forehead, that is, a long red cloth belt with coral beads on the upper edge and five colored coral and jade beads on the lower edge. In addition, five or seven braids should be combed, and the ends of the braids are doped with colored velvet thread, which is tied in the belt at the back. Married women wear a red tassel felt hat with a pointed top and three long heads. The heads are tied to three braids, each of which is divided into three sections. They are connected by metal rings and inlaid with silver, coral, agate, colored beads, shells and other ornaments, forming a beautiful pattern. The length of the head is determined by the height of the wearer. The earrings are required to be put on and down to the bottom of the robe.
Yugur men wear white felt hats with gold rims, long gowns with big necks, colorful belts, and cigarette purses made of fragrant cowhide. The brim of the hat is inlaid with black edge, and the back is rolled up. In the middle of the hat top, there are round or octagonal patterns woven with gold thread on the colored satin. The robe is mostly sewn with brown or cloth woven with white wool and silk. The belt is decorated with waist knife, sickle, snuff bottle, etc. The skirt is bordered with otter skin, and the hem is cut and bordered.
Yugur costume is a vivid portrayal of Yugur living environment, mode of production, economic and cultural development. There are many taboos and norms related to national customs, religious beliefs, hero worship, etc., which reflect the social life form of Yugur nationality and have high historical and cultural research value. With the development of society, most of the traditional Yugur clothing production skills are on the verge of being lost, and some of the clothing accessories embroidery from the traditional technology to the original pattern can not be completely preserved and inherited, which is in urgent need of rescue and protection.
