Introduction to Gaoqiang (Xi'an Gaoqiang)

Applicant: Quzhou City, Zhejiang Province

Gaoqiang is a kind of opera derived from Yiyang tune in Ming Dynasty and later Qingyang tune. In the course of hundreds of years of evolution, great changes have taken place in the branches of Yiyang tune, which have different degrees of integration with local folk music, thus forming different musical styles of Gaoqiang.

Xi'an Gaoqiang was formed in Quzhou, Zhejiang Province, which was named Xi'an in ancient times. It is a local opera formed under the influence of Yiyang tune. It was formed in the Jiajing period of Ming Dynasty at the latest. With Quzhou as the center, it spread in Wenzhou and Jinhua of Zhejiang Province, Southeast of Jiangxi Province and northwest of Fujian Province.

Xi'an Gaoqiang originated in the folk, popular in the folk, there are "Huaiyin tree", "Hezhu Ji", "Lu gags" and a number of traditional plays. It was originally only accompanied by gongs and drums. After Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty, it performed in the same class with Kunqiang and Luantan tunes. Influenced by Kunshan tunes and Luantan tunes, on the premise of retaining the original musical features, it added orchestral, kundi, Banhu, Tihu and other musical instruments, and also had a simple entrance. The existing Xi'an high pitched singing "roars" and "Dances" in performance, "red and green" in dance beauty, and "big drum and trumpet" in musical instruments. It has a strong local flavor. It basically retains the style and features of ancient Nanxi opera in terms of repertoire, costumes, singing methods, trade system and performance procedures, which is of great significance and value to the study of Nanxi opera.

Since modern times, because of the constant war, Xi'an Gaoqiang has been scattered among the people. After liberation, the local government rescued Xi'an Gaoqiang, preserved a large number of relevant information, and staged some plays. However, with the acceleration of the modernization process, Xi'an's high-profile audience is losing seriously, talent is scarce, and there is a situation that the young and the yellow are out of touch. Once again, Xi'an is facing a new survival crisis. This situation urgently needs to be taken seriously by the relevant parties.
