Introduction to Tibetan Opera (nimtarong Tibetan Opera)

Nimu county is located in the central and southern part of Tibet Autonomous Region, on the North Bank of the middle reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River. It is an important place for Tibetan opera to spread. Nimtarong Tibetan Opera belongs to the old school of white mask in Tibetan opera. It is an ancient opera loved by Tibetan people. In the mid-1950s, the Nimu Tibetan Opera Troupe changed to play the blue mask opera, and the repertoire was expanded from "Prince northang" to "zhimeigengden" and "Lang Savannah clam". However, the white mask opera was still performed during the sheaton Festival, which combined the performance styles of white mask opera and blue mask opera.

Nimu Tarong Tibetan Opera is a precious cultural wealth handed down from generation to generation by Nimu people, which plays an important role in the spiritual and cultural life of Nimu people. Due to the change of the times, the decrease of the audience, the aging of the inheritors and the lack of successors, nimtarong Tibetan Opera is gradually dying out, which is in urgent need of protection and inheritance.
