The predecessor of Yuxi Agricultural Vocational and technical college is Yuxi agricultural school, a national key technical secondary school. The school was established in 1956 and was assessed as "qualified technical secondary school" by the Provincial Education Commission in 1991. In 1993, it was recognized as "provincial and ministerial key technical secondary school" by the provincial government. In the same year, the provincial government approved the establishment of "Yunnan Yuxi tobacco cultivation school". The campus covers an area of 166.11 mu, with a building area of 68110.53 m2.
