A brief introduction to the firing techniques of Uygur molding earthenware:
Applicant: Xinjiang production and Construction Corps
Pottery is one of the ancient traditional handicrafts of human beings. The firing technique of moulded earthenware, which is popular in Tumushuke District of the third agricultural division of Xinjiang production and Construction Corps, is unique among many pottery making methods and is very eye-catching. It is deeply influenced by the ancient kuci culture, forming a unique style of Tumushuke area, full of local flavor. In terms of technological process, this kind of earthenware firing technique is similar to that in Aksu and Kuqa, but different from that in Kashi. Its products have a wide range of subjects, rich modeling, great personality and expressive force, and high artistic value.
Tumushuke earthenware has a long history. Since the Qin and Han Dynasties, a small number of herdsmen in Tumushuke area have transited from nomadic life to settled life. To facilitate their lives, they used local clay, red willow and Wutong to produce living utensils, and in the process, they constantly summarized their experiences, and created more advanced clay cooking techniques.
Although the firing technique of moulded earthenware is still popular in Tumushuke area, under the impact and influence of industrial production methods, this ancient pottery making technique is declining day by day, which is in urgent need of rescue and protection.
