Boxing willow weaving technology is mainly distributed in Shandong Binzhou City Boxing County, Ma Dahu and Jinqiu street. Straw and willow weaving has a long history in the local area. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, straw and willow weaving began to spread among women in Jinqiu and other places, and then gradually became the main sideline of the local area. After the 1950s, with the support of the local government and the efforts of folk artists, the grass and willow weaving industry gradually developed into a certain production scale from small workshops.

The main raw materials of grass Willow weaving process are cattail, reed grass, woolly grass, corn husk and winter wheat straw which have been growing for two years in the local wetland. These plants have the characteristics of uniform fiber, soft texture, long bark, low lignification and easy to use. In recent years, the local production of straw willow products include tea mat, cushion, door mat, straw storage box, straw glass bottle cover and other daily household crafts, with complete categories, beautiful shape, bright colors and exquisite skills. In addition to meeting domestic demand, it has also been exported to Singapore, South Korea, Japan, the United States, France and other countries, as well as Hong Kong and Taiwan, with an annual sales revenue of more than US $50 million.
