Beijing carved lacquer craft is a technique of painting a certain thickness of natural lacquer on the tire, and then carving patterns on the stacked flat lacquer tire with a knife. Carved lacquer products are simple in shape, exquisite in decoration, smooth in color and elegant in shape, and have the characteristics of moisture-proof, heat resistance, acid and alkali resistance, no deformation and no deterioration. It embodies the superb skills and intelligence of Chinese craft artists, and is the treasure of Chinese traditional crafts.

Lacquer carving originated in the Tang Dynasty. Due to the special political, economic and cultural background of Beijing, it finally settled in Beijing after the development of yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the development of hundreds of years, Beijing lacquer carving technology is one of the outstanding representatives of Chinese lacquer painting technology. In 1904, artists Xiao Le'an and Li Maolong set up the first modern folk lacquer carving workshop in Beijing - "jiguzhai". After 1949, Beijing called together the successors of Guzhai carving lacquer to build Beijing carving lacquer production cooperative. In 1958, it turned into Beijing carving lacquer factory, which became the main position for the inheritance and development of Beijing carving lacquer technology.

There are many kinds of carved lacquer products and rich themes in Beijing.
