Dragon Boat Festival (Tai O Dragon Boat Festival)
Applicant: Hong Kong Special Administrative Region
Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional festival held by Hong Kong fishermen in tai'ao on the east coast of the Pearl River Estuary in Guangdong Province to drive away the plague. It has been passed down for hundreds of years.
The activity is sponsored by three traditional dragon boat associations, namely, boat boat Association, fish Association and Hexin hall. The activity is supported by their fishery income. The fishermen and the public are actively participating in the activity.
On the fourth day of the fifth lunar month, members of the guilds rowed dragon boats and dragged God boats to four temples in tai'ao to invite gods to worship. On the fifth day of the lunar new year, "Youyong" was held. Dragon boats and boats carrying statues were used to patrol the waterways. Residents of shanty houses were invited to burn incense and worship the gods. After you Yong, three dragon boats race. In the afternoon, send the statues back to their respective temples. That night, members of the guild gathered to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival.
In 2008, the three Dragon Boat associations jointly formed the "Hong Kong Tai O traditional Dragon Boat Association" to make concerted efforts to inherit this unique festival, which has been widely recognized and supported by all walks of life in Hong Kong.
As a traditional festival ceremony in Hong Kong, Tai O Dragon Boat Festival plays an important role in maintaining community cohesion and cultural identity, and also has important folklore research value.
