Introduction to paper cutting (Baotou paper cutting)

Applicant: Baotou City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region

Baotou paper-cut is a kind of traditional Chinese folk paper-cut, mainly distributed in Baotou, Inner Mongolia and its surrounding areas.

In Baotou and its surrounding areas, where multi-ethnic groups live together, the unique culture and customs of all ethnic groups blend with each other and learn from each other, thus forming a unique local cultural tradition. The traditional Baotou folk paper-cut has a long history. Its style is characterized by the interaction between the nomadic culture of the northern grassland and the farming culture of the Central Plains. It has a profound historical background and rich cultural connotation. As the most popular folk decorative art in Baotou, Baotou paper-cut has formed a set of relatively complete techniques of expression through repeated practice of several generations of artists. The idea of the work is unique, giving people a pure, simple, fresh aesthetic feeling, rich in rich grassland atmosphere.

The themes of Baotou paper-cut include characters, animals, flowers, birds, fish and insects, auspicious patterns and so on. There are many hand-held dolls in various forms, twelve Chinese zodiac animals, cloud sharp and auspicious continuous patterns, as well as animals with "ten" symbols, as well as "mouse climbing pole", "Mongolian Riding Camel", "riding gun" and so on.

In recent years, with the acceleration of the pace of urban industrialization and the development of urban civilization, Baotou folk paper-cut, as a product of history and culture, is facing many problems, such as inheritance difficulties, which need to be effectively protected.
