Laoshan legend is an oral literature created by Laoshan people in Shandong Province for thousands of years. Its narrators include farmers, fishermen, Taoists, monks, scholars and handicraftsmen.

Laoshan legends include more than 5600 folk oral works of various types and themes, including natural change myth, hero myth, historical figure legend, religious figure legend, fairy tale, mountain and river legend, specialty legend, custom legend, animal legend, plant legend, ghost fox ghost story, animal story, life story, witty figure story, allusion and so on. Influenced by the natural, geographical environment and Taoist culture, the most distinctive legends of Laoshan are the legends of scenery, religious figures, ghosts, foxes and monsters, and ocean stories.

Laoshan folktales are characterized by the integration of local popular culture and mountain and sea culture, and are constantly evolving in the mutual infiltration of secular culture and religious culture. They have high historical value, literary value and academic research value. At present, the narrator of the legend has no successors, and has been facing the danger of being lost, which is in urgent need of protection and inheritance.
