A brief introduction to ancient calligraphy and painting copying techniques:

Applicant: the Palace Museum

Traditional Chinese ancient painting and calligraphy manual copying technology is an important traditional handicraft in China, which has a long history and clear inheritance context. Copying ancient rare books of calligraphy and painting has become an important means of inheriting ancient Chinese painting and calligraphy art and techniques for a long time.

After the founding of the people's Republic of China, the palace museum set up a cultural relic restoration factory, and invited Jin Zhongyu, Zheng zhuyou, Feng Zhonglian, Jin Yumin, Chen linzhai and other masters to enter the Palace Museum to copy the national treasure level calligraphy and painting relics collected in the Palace Museum. His works include Feng Zhonglian's "Qingming River Painting" and "Guo Guo lady's spring outing painting", Jin Zhongyu's "Tingqin painting" by Zhao Ji, Guo Xi's "Ke Shi Pingyuan painting", Cui Bai's "Han que painting", Chen linzhai's "Han Xizai's banquet painting", Hu Huan's "Zhuo Xie painting" and "Hua Zhu Jin Ji painting", Liu Bingsen's "silk painting of the Western Han Dynasty" unearthed from Mawangdui, and many of them have been used as cultural relics of the Forbidden City Collect things.

These masters inherited their skills in the Palace Museum, trained a group of calligraphy and painting copying masters including Liu Bingsen, and made contributions to the cause of cultural relics protection in China. The copying technology of ancient calligraphy and painting mainly includes the copying of draft, ink, coloring, making old, title and seal. In the process of copying, traditional technology and traditional materials are fully used to make the copied works close to the original to the greatest extent.

At present, the professional technicians engaged in the copying of ancient calligraphy and painting in the Palace Museum are older, and there are some difficulties in inheritance.
