The headquarters of Beijing University of technology is located at No. 100, pingleyuan District, Chaoyang District, Beijing. It is adjacent to the South Road of East Fourth Ring Road in the East, Zuo'an East Road in the south, xidawang road in the West and pingleyuan community in the north. The total construction area of the campus is about 63.97 hectares.

Founded in 1960, Beijing University of technology is a multi-disciplinary municipal key university with a focus on engineering and a combination of science, engineering, economics, management, arts, law and art. In 1981, it became the first batch of master's degree awarding units approved by the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China. In 1985, it became a doctor's degree awarding unit. In December 1996, the University passed the national "211 Project" preliminary examination, and officially entered the ranks of 100 key universities in the 21st century.

It has 3 National Key Disciplines of optical engineering, materials science and structural engineering, 39 Beijing key disciplines, 1 national industry university research center, 1 International Cooperation Research Center, 4 key laboratories or engineering research centers of the Ministry of education, 3 key laboratories jointly built by provinces and ministries, 26 Beijing key laboratories or engineering research centers, and 3 industry key laboratories. At present, the school has more than 3000 staff, including more than 1500 full-time teachers. Among the teachers, there are 6 full-time academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Sciences, 275 doctoral supervisors, 1560 master supervisors, 3 national outstanding contribution experts, 9 distinguished professors of the "Yangtze River scholars Award Program" of the Ministry of education, 10 winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and 3 winners of the national famous teacher award.
