Zhongkai College of agricultural engineering is a multi-disciplinary provincial undergraduate university with the advantages of agriculture and engineering and the coordinated development of agriculture, engineering, science, economics, law, management, culture and arts. The school is located in Guangzhou, a famous historical and cultural city. The campus is an ideal place for reading and studying. The school has a history of 88 years. It was formerly known as Zhongkai agricultural and industrial school. It was founded during the period of the first cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. It was proposed by Mr. He Xiangning, a famous political activist in the modern democratic revolution, and decided by the Central Committee of the Kuomintang to commemorate Mr. Liao Zhongkai's willingness to care for agricultural and industrial workers. The school enrolled students in 1927, and Mr. He Xiangning was the first president for 15 years. In 1984, with the approval of the Ministry of education and the Ministry of agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries, the University was upgraded to an undergraduate college and named "Zhongkai College of agricultural technology". Comrade Wang Zhen, vice president of the state, inscribed the name of the University. In March 2008, it was renamed "Zhongkai College of Agricultural Engineering" with the approval of the Ministry of education.

The University obtained the right to confer master's degree in 2006, and won the award of excellent university in the undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of education in January 2009. The school has two campuses and one practice farm, covering a total area of 1114700 square meters, of which Haizhu campus covers an area of 177800 square meters, Baiyun campus covers an area of 603400 square meters, and Zhongcun practice farm covers an area of 3335000 square meters. The school library has a collection of 903000 books, more than 3.2 million e-books, 15000 full-text e-journals, and 20 full-text and abstract databases.

In the past five years, the university has undertaken 1301 scientific research projects at all levels, including 72 at the national level and 426 at the provincial and ministerial level; It has won 2 second and 5 third prizes of Guangdong science and technology award, 9 second and 3 third prizes of Guangdong Agricultural Technology Extension Award, 1 third prize of Guangdong philosophy and social science outstanding achievement award, 127 authorized patents, including 37 invention patents, 177 academic works published by the University, and nearly 7000 academic papers published, among which 364 were included in SCI, EI and ISTP Chapter.

In order to win the support from all walks of life and promote the development of the school, in April 1987, according to the proposal of Wang Zhen, vice president of the state, and with the consent of Guangdong provincial Party committee, the board of directors of the school was established. Wang Zhen served as the honorary chairman and ye Xuanping, governor of Guangdong Province, served as the chairman. In 1997, Lu Ruihua, governor of Guangdong Province, was the chairman of the second board of directors. In 2008, Huang Huahua, governor of Guangdong Province, was the chairman of the third board of directors.
