[plant morphology] longliye

Small evergreen shrub, up to 40 cm tall. Branchlets sinuous, with inconspicuous pubescence. Leaves alternate, short petiolate; ovate lanceolate or obovate lanceolate, 5-8 cm long, 2.5-3.5 cm wide, apex obtuse and slightly convex, base short pointed or nearly rounded, entire, dark green above, olive green below, midrib base puberulent at first, then bald; stipules small, triangular, grass yellow when mature. Flowers unisexual, dark purple, clustered in leaf axils or arranged in a very short raceme; petiole slightly shorter or longer than calyx; female calyx 6-lobed. Lobes 2-3 mm wide, outer 3 subspatulate, obtuse, inner 3 broadly obovate, slightly smaller; ovary 3-locular, style 3, slender, broadly 2-divergent; male calyx 6-lobed, smaller, isomorphic with female flower, stamen 3, filamentous, anther elliptic. Capsule placid stipitate, pea like, almost enclosed by a growing persistent calyx.

It is cultivated in Guangdong and Guangxi.

[collection] from May to June, the old green leaves were picked and dried. Generally, 4-5 leaves can be harvested from each plant every 15 days or so.

[herbal medicine] the dried leaves are oval or obovate lanceolate, tongue like, with blunt or rounded apex and small tip, short tip at the base, nearly round, whole margin, withered yellow or black green, prominent dorsal midrib, pinnate lateral veins, and anastomotic veins near the edge. Paper, thicker. The air is weak and the taste is light. Large and complete film is preferred.
