Brief introduction of Yuhang rolling lamp
Applicant: Yuhang District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province
Yuhang rolling lantern originated in wengmei area of Yuhang, Zhejiang Province. It has a history of more than 800 years. It is a folk dance with strong competitive characteristics performed during festivals and lantern festivals. Fan Chengda, a poet of the Southern Song Dynasty, once described the rolling lamp as follows in his poem "thirty two rhymes of Haixie style of Wuzhong festival in the Shang Yuan Dynasty": "the candle is thrown steadily in the air, and the ball is pushed lightly on the ground". It can be seen that rolling lamp was popular in the Southern Song Dynasty.
Yuhang is located in the outskirts of Hangzhou. In the Southern Song Dynasty, it was the capital of the capital. Various temple fairs were held frequently. Rolling lanterns, as a characteristic program of the traditional festival guard of honor, were naturally very popular. Wengmei of Yuhang is also near the North Bank of Qiantang River. In ancient times, salt industry flourished and pirates invaded it constantly. For hundreds of years since then, Yuhang people have always regarded the rolling lantern as a kind of auspicious object and a tool to strengthen their body. Every Lantern Festival or temple fair (mainly yuanshuai Temple Fair) will participate in the performance, so it is handed down from generation to generation.
Yuhang rolling lantern integrates dance, skills and sports, with distinctive characteristics of diversity, comprehensiveness and competitiveness. It has nine sets of 27 performing movements, unique artistic conception and typical regional characteristics. It shows the outstanding creativity of Chinese folk dance and has high research value for exploring ancient folk dance.
With the development of modernization and the influence of diversified literature and art, most of the traditional temple fairs have disappeared, and the opportunities for lantern rolling activities have decreased, which is on the verge of extinction. Moreover, there are few people left to make the rolling lamp. Therefore, it is still very urgent to rescue and protect Yuhang gundeng.
