Introduction to Li people's firewood dance
Applicant: Sanya City, Hainan Province
Firewood dance is the most representative of Li Folk Dance, which is called "zhuancha" and "taicha" in Li language. It originated from the funeral custom of Li Nationality in guyazhou area (now Sanya City, Hainan Province).
Firewood dance has a complete set of dance tools and methods. The dance tools are composed of two blocks and several pairs of small trees. When dancing, the two planks are placed on the ground in parallel about 2 meters apart, and the planks are put on the shelves with several pairs of sticks. The two ends of the stick are held by several people, opposite each other, up and down, left and right, on and off, and cross slapping, giving out a strong rhythm. Dancers jump into sticks, jump back and forth, crouch, imitate human labor conditions and the movements and sounds of various animals. Firewood dance is composed of nine relatively independent dance steps: flat step, knife sharpening step, Cha rope small step, small frog step, big frog step, dog chasing deer step, rice screening step, monkey stealing Valley step and crow step. The dance rhythm is strong, the action is simple and rough, vivid and artistic appeal is strong. Firewood dance has a strong entertainment, is a good way to carry out mass cultural and sports activities. In 1957, Jin Jing took part in the minority literature and art performance, known as "the flower of Wuzhishan art"; when performing in Romania, Yugoslavia, Pakistan, Japan and other countries, it was also known as "the world's rare aerobics".
Firewood dance is based on the folk customs of Li Nationality in Sanya. The changes of the local customs have a great impact on the survival of the folk firewood dance. At present, only Langdian village, Yacheng Town, Sanya City, still retains this ancient custom. Therefore, it is urgent to rescue and protect the folk firewood dance of Li nationality.
